This is the time for we all waited from so long, YES Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 is now out and you can download as general availability. Yesterday Exchange Team announced the general availability of Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3, among all other new features it brings to the Exchange server legacy, the main feature Exchange 2010 SP3 provides is to now make it possible to build co-existence between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 new instances in your messaging organization.
In addition to support the co-existence building between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 version, Exchange 2010 SP3 also makes it possible:
- To install Exchange 2010 on server running Windows Server 2012 operating system.
- In other features Exchange 2010 SP3 also supports managing and running Exchange 2010 web-based services on Microsoft Internet Explorer 10.
- And last but not least SP3 contains all the updates and rollups related bug fixes which have been made available before its release.
Caution:
For production upgrade and building co-existence between your earlier Exchange 2010 servers and Exchange 2013 new instances, it is required to have Exchange 2013 CU (Cumulative Update) 1 installed, which is not yet available and will be planned to be released in Q1 one of 2013.
Recommendation:
It would be highly recommended to plan and test your up-gradation plan before you rollout the update on your production Exchange Servers, this will give you heads up about what possible obstacle you might face while coming along to upgrade and build co-existence with new Exchange 2013 instances in your organization.
